makes my heart melt...

One of my goals as a parent is to raise compassionate sons. Boys who think of others before themselves. Boys who will turn into great men; to be honest and descent. There is no book for this and I feel at times Randy and I are stumbling in the dark unable to see what we are doing.

Then there are small moments in time where there is a flash of light and for a second, we see that we are on the right path. We experienced a "flash" last night.

Griffin's school is having a coin drive for the Red Cross; the coins will go to help needy families in our area. Due to the economy we have a lot this year.

Anyway, G and I talked about getting some coins together a few days ago. Last night we came home from Costco and he ran straight for his room. While I was cooking dinner he comes out to grab a baggie. A little while later he emerges with his baggie full of coins from his piggy bank. He walks up to me proudly and says "here are my coins - do you think there is a $100.00 here?"

I am stunned. He blew me away by 1. remembering we needed to get coins and 2. taking them out of his own piggy bank. I stood there for a moment unable to move.

I have hope that he will grow up to be kind and caring. It's wonderful to see this side of him, the side that is not hitting his brother and laughing, or pushing C down so he can get to a toy first. It's these little things that make my heart melt and I fall a bit more in love with him.
